Wimbledon star becomes poker pro
25th June, 2009
Wimbledon star Boris Becker is a new poker celebrity. It’s almost been 25years since he was the youngest player ever to win the men’s singles final and now the 42 year old has turned to the poker table to feed his competitive mind.
The player gained an interest in the game after playing cards with his tennis colleagues when a match had been called off due to rainfall. Now he has turned pro. During July, Becker will be competing in his native Dortmund and will also play in the Tour de grand final in Monte Carlo. Becker has reportedly wanted to sharpen his poker skills and become a real international poker star.
Poker is a pressured game, pressure which Boris is used to and has been under for the past three decades during his tennis career.
Tennis is much like poker in the sense that you have to remain calm and collected constantly anticipating your opponent’s next move. He has been used to travelling from city to city so the poker pro lifestyle is a home from home for him.
