World Series of Poker Europe Event #1 down to final nine
22nd September, 2008
The four-event version of the World Series of Poker in Europe kicked things off last Friday with the first event, which is a £1500 no limit hold’em tournament – awarding the last player standing with £144,218.
The first event has now worked itself down to the final nine players, which means there is only one table full of players left with a shot at the first-place money and the coveted gold bracelet.
Currently in the lead, with about 1/3 of the total remaining chips, is Adam Junglen who is a 20-year-old American poker player that already has a notable sixth-place finish in the European Poker Tour’s event in Barcelona. In that tournament Junglen was awarded €196,500.
The second-place finisher in the tournament will be awarded £89,175, which will be a sizable win considering the buy-in amount for the event. Right now John Dwyer is sitting in the second-place chip position and could easily walk away with this prize, and should not be ruled out of winning the whole thing.
Dwyer has 511,000 in chips, which is only 284,000 less than the chip leader and could easily gain some chips from the smaller stacks and move up the ranks.
Sitting in last place on the chip count is Fuad Serhan, with 61,000, who was lucky enough to make the final table and will be awarded at least £13,222 for his efforts. Although in the game of poker anything can happen, so it wouldn’t be a good idea to rule out any of these players from taking home the first-place prize.
The WSOPE will conclude with a massive main even tournament with a £10,000 buy in fee, on Saturday the 27th of September. Many people have qualified for this event through online poker tournaments, where players can win their entry fee.
