World's Oldest Bingo Player Dies
30th April, 2008
At the ripe old age of 106 Edith Guildford has sadly died. She was the world's oldest bingo player.
Edith was a not the type of elderly lady depicted in most stereotypical views of bingo. In her 80's she sped round Brands Hatch at speeds up to and over 100 miles per hour. She is also a Guinness Record holder as the oldest ever Bridesmaid – she was bridesmaid to her great Granddaughter.
Edith played most of her bingo at her local Gala Bingo club in Strood. Well-known and liked by all at the club she spent several of her birthdays over the years there including her most recent, last year’s 106th.
The manager of Gala Bingo, Strood (Anthony Jordon) had the following to say about Edith: "Staff here are very sad to hear Edith has passed away. Our condolences go out to her family".
The assistant manager, Matt Yeo said: "Edith celebrated Most of our staff knew her and liked her very much. She will be missed by us all."
